Tips for sanding putty

what is putty Putty is a decorative hydraulic material. It is a post-award decoration coating and an indispensable product before painting. Putty is prepared with a small amount of paint base, a large amount of filler and an appropriate amount of coloring pigments. The coating applied to the object can solve the defects of uneven surface of the object, and can also ensure the smooth and smooth surface of the object.

In the decoration of new houses, everyone knows that putty needs to be scraped for wall decoration, because scraping the putty on the wall can ensure the smoothness of the wall, but do you know that you need to scrape the putty after the putty is dry? Sand it with sandpaper. Today we will talk about the things you don't know about putty sanding.

Why does putty need to be sanded?

Why do putty need to be polished, because whether it is wall paint, wallpaper or diatom mud, it is a very thin layer of finishing layer, which cannot completely cover the traces formed by the putty, so it will be damaged during construction after polishing. It looks very convenient and delicate.

What will happen if I don't polish it?

If the construction is carried out on the basis of unpolished putty, various uneven shapes will be formed, which are very, very rough and ugly.

What are the advantages of putty sanding?
1. The loose layer after grinding is more conducive to the absorption and penetration of the primer, and improves the adhesion of the latex paint. Yes, the putty layer and the latex paint layer are integrated and are not easy to fall off. It is a normal phenomenon to touch the powder after the putty is polished. .
2. During the batch scraping process of putty, it is inevitable that some small flaws will appear, such as the joints at the junction of putty, and the traces left by the partial batch scraping too thin or too thick. The flaws can be trimmed by grinding tips to make the putty layer smoother. Smooth and delicate.
3. The surface structure of the putty after the overall grinding is more uniform and consistent, which can enhance the performance of the latex paint, and avoid problems such as local color difference of the latex paint that may be caused by the difference in the surface structure.

What tool do you use for putty sanding?

There are two tools commonly used by our decoration masters for putty polishing, that is, light bulbs and sandpaper.

The main function of the light bulb is lighting. In order to observe the flatness of the wall at any time when polishing the putty, the polishing master usually holds a light bulb in his hand during construction. The wattage of the light bulb is generally more than 200 watts. In this way, the smoothness of the wall can be well observed even during the day. After talking about the light bulb, there is another tool - sandpaper. Sandpaper is the main tool for sanding putty. Generally, 240.320 is used, but you can't just look at the label. The brand of sandpaper is different. The thickness may be different. Choose according to your own needs. If the sandpaper is too thick, it is easy to cause traces. If the sandpaper is too fine, it is difficult to polish it smoothly. Therefore, the choice of wall sandpaper is not the thicker the better, nor the thinner the better. Instead, it is appropriate to match the wall putty. Common sandpaper meshes are 80, 120, 180, 340, 320, 400, 600, of which 80 and 120 can be classified as coarse sandpaper, 180, 240 are medium, and above 320 are fine sandpaper

What is the reason for the putty not grinding?

1. It is difficult to polish a wall that is pressed too hard or polished during construction, because pressing too hard or polishing during construction will increase the density of the putty powder layer, and the hardness of the solid surface of the wall will also increase.

2. The last batch has been scraped for a long time and has not been polished for a long time or is exposed to water such as: (wet weather, rainy season, wall seepage, etc.) the wall is difficult to polish. To achieve the best, if it encounters water, it will accelerate its hardening effect. The above two cases will increase the hardness of the wall, so it is more difficult to polish, and the polished wall will be rough.

3. The formulas of putty powder are different, and they are mixed together, or the proportion of the formula is wrongly allocated, so that the hardness of the product after scraping is higher (such as: mixing of interior and exterior wall putty powder, etc.).
